With the Brexit under way, there is a bit of a situation in the UK. If you don’t know about Brexit please read my highly factual and sense-making post about it. In summary, Scotland voted to stay in the EU, but England voted to leave. So we’re leaving which makes Scotland feel insignificant and depressed. Sad Scotland is no fun to be in… I hear that Nessie and Ben Nevis are migrating to New Zealand next summer…
Nicola Sturgeon, who is somehow important, says that she wants a second referendum for Scottish independence. She will be proposing it later on this month… Basically, the idea is that Scotland can cut itself off of England and remain in the EU. That way, Scotland’s vote will be respected… and England can just do its thing.
So that’s what’s happening here… Everyone is talking about Brexit and I’m just stuck in the middle with my underdeveloped political opinions… My ideal scenario would be if Brexit never happened. Sadly, I can’t go back in time to change that… Got to just carry on going forward. A bit like a train going across a bridge that is collapsing right behind it. That’s basically me. The train, not the bridge…. In times like these, and all other times, one has to ask themselves what would they do… What would I do? How would I fix everything?
If I answer those questions, I will know what I should vote in the 2nd referendum… Here it goes…
If I vote no then Scotland will continue to be part of the UK. It will leave the EU which means they might cut funding for University research. Additionally, there might not be as many Engineering jobs for when I graduate… So that’s a problem for me. Then again things might get better after the UK leaves… That would not be a problem for me…
If I vote yes, then Scotland will leave England and stay in the EU. This means that Scotland will become a separate country and we don’t know if that is better or worse for it. More importantly, I don’t know if it is better or worse for me.
So that’s that… With the options at hand, I can not resolve the situation… Whatever I vote, things will either improve, or they won’t… So really I just wasted my time with this whole deciding part… Fuck this.
Here is an idea. Instead of leaving the UK lets propose another, more interesting solution… Let Scotland leave England alone, but since Scotland is so used to being part of another country, let’s replace it with some other, more trending country… It shouldn’t be in Europe. Not much happens in Europe anymore, people just work and die. Let’s be part of someplace more interesting. Yes! That’s a much better idea….
Let Scotland leave the UK and let it become part of Syria. Syria is a fashionable topic right now! Let’s join Syria! Scotland has never been in the middle east and there is a first time for everything.
I will spare you all the voting process, I know this is best for this country… As of Monday, Scotland will be part of Syria! Yay!
